Procedures and Requirements
This program is for those who do not want to earn a degree and only want certification, or who have earned a degree and want to be licensed by the N.C.C.A.
Complete Phase I
Courses
Each candidate must complete the following 5 courses:
- Creation Therapy
- Basic Christian Counseling
- Christian Counseling: Integrating Temperament and Psychology
- Counseling With Truth: Finding Victory in the Christian Walk
- Quality, Ethics, and Legal Issues in Christian Counseling
For those already degreed at a Master's or higher level, 2 courses may be exempt if similar coursework has been taken.
Additional Requirements
Each candidate must:

- Complete a practicum. This consists of administering the A.P.S. to 10 individuals. This will be done under the direction of an assigned and approved clinical supervisor. 3 hrs. required.
- Upon completion of the required courses, submit the following:
- Written responses to 50 ethical questions posed by N.C.C.A.'s National Licensing Board of Examiners.
- $50 for first year's annual dues.
- A signed Application for Certification/Membership from and a signed copy of N.C.C.A.'s code of Ethical Standards.
After completing all of the requirements for Phase I, the candidate will (assuming everything is in order) receive:
- Certified Temperament Counselor
- Clinical Member (non-clergy) or Professional Clinical Member (clergy)
Complete Phase II
Courses
Each candidate must complete the following 3 courses:

Each candidate must:
- Complete a practicum. Administer the A.P.S. to 15 additional individuals, under supervision. 3 hrs. required.
- Upon completion of the required courses, submit the following:
- Signed Application for License form, and National background screening.
- A licensing fee of $100.
- Ministerial Credentials, send a copy to us.
***Each Student must have their ministerial credentials before receiving your license. If you do not already have valid ministerial credentials, we sugges that you speak with your local pastor or church leadership about obtaining these credentials through them. If that is not possible, please call our office for a list of organizations that many of our students have obtained their credentials through.
After successfully completing all of the requirements for Phase II, the candidate will (assuming everything is in order) receive:
- Certified Pastoral Counselor (holds no degree)
- Licensed Pastoral Counselor (holds a Bachelors)
- Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor (holds a Masters)
- Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor-Advanced Certified (holds Doctorate)
Annual membership and license renewal is required. Membership is $50 per year and license renewal is $20 per year (total $70). A signed affidavit verifying continuing education must be submitted annually.
The tuition for each Phase I and Phase II course is $250. this includes shipping, and handling and all course supplies/materials. Candidates are expected to pay for each course when it is shipped.
NOW OFFERING "HOW TO START A COUNSELING MINISTRY AND TAKE IT HIGHER". Avoid ministry failure, by learning to develop your vision and set your goals. You will explore the different concepts of a home office, church office, and personal office space. Learn ways to begin advertising and reaching your community. This course will help you make sure to have a strong start in your ministry which will bring greater success in the future. It is an advanced level course, in that it will be considered part of the Doctoral course requirement if you choose to take it. The cost is $250 as are the Phase 1 & 2 courses.
